From April to May, the two legendary musicians are on the road as the SatchVai Band, travelling to rock stages from one state to another. With the high success and excellent reviews of their sold-out shows in Europe, you know they will exceed everyone’s expectations when they conquer the stage of the Durham Performing Arts Center on 30th April 2026!
The formation of the SatchVai Band is a solid testament to Satriani and Vai’s strong friendship of over five decades. Both respected musicians, they share a rich history and passionate creativity that made them the amazing players that they are known as today. Five decades of friendship, talent, and shared passion between guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani and Steve Vai will become a big show at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Thursday, 30th April 2026! The SatchVai Band will be performing in North Carolina as a part of their tour, Surfing With The Hydra! Satriani shares that this tour is inspired by their successful sold-out shows around Europe, and he invites everyone to jam with them, saying, “The SATCHVAI Band rides again! After a fantastic European tour last summer Steve, Kenny, Marco, Pete and I will bring the Surfing With The Hydra Tour to the US. We can’t wait to play you the new material from our forthcoming SatchVai album along with your favorite songs from our shared catalog. And that’s not all, we’re bringing along the incomparable Animals As Leaders. You do not want to miss this show with this lineup!” It’s hard to say no to a concert invitation from the bestselling instrumental rock guitarist of all time himself!
The first jamming session between Joe Satriani and Steve Vai can be traced to a time when they were both still teenagers. Now in their 60s, the duo still puts phenomenal sold-out shows together, and that’s exactly what they plan for their upcoming tour, Surfing With The Hydra. Now with top-tier musicians guitarist Pete Thorn, drummer Kenny Aronoff, and bassist Marco Mendoza as the other members of the SatchVai Band, the whole ensemble is excited to play their hit songs, amazing covers, and even new material from their upcoming album. Satriani was the guitar teacher to Vai and other famous guitarists like Alex Skolnick of Testament, Larry LaLonde of Primus, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica. He has sold more than 10 million albums and has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards. With a very successful career, he has 18 studio albums, three EPs, five live albums, and four compilation albums under his discography. Vai, who has also been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, has won three and has sold over 15 million records. He has been voted as the 10th Greatest Guitarist by the readers of Guitar World. A very technical musician, he is recognized as one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He regards Brian May and Allan Holdsworth as some of his biggest influences, and his massive discography features nine studio albums, eight live albums, and twenty compilation albums. It’s no wonder why music fans all over the world were ecstatic when they learned these two giant guitar forces are coming together to create one epic band and now, one epic tour!
Guitarist Tosin Abasi’s solo project in 2007 has become a djent scene favorite. American instrumental progressive metal band Animals As Leaders has been announced as the official opening act of this tour. Abasi, Javier Reyes on rhythm guitar, and Matt Garstka on drums will be starting the show on the right note, and they are honored to play songs from their four studio albums this spring. Abasi says, “We are beyond honored to be joining Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on tour! Our band, in many ways, would not be what it was if not for the impact of these two icons. Getting a chance to hit the US with them is a bucket list experience for us. Can’t want to see you all soon!”
