Hamilton at Durham Performing Arts Center

Nearly 10 years ago, on February 17, 2015, history was made as Hamilton debuted Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in New York City. It was this historic launch that was so well-received, which led to a Broadway opening in August. Since then, Hamilton has been running not only in America, but in several destinations around the USA.

Hamilton continues its success as it tours on a limited season in Durham in May at Durham Performing Arts Center, typically well-known for showcasing the world’s most second to none plays and musicals.

Hamilton is a story of Alexander Hamilton himself, a U.S. Founding Fathers, has continued to empower many theater-goers all around the world. The success of this Broadway musical from its birth started to grow larger and larger especially after the 2016 Tony Awards, where Hamilton went on to win 11 out of 16 nominations and consolidated its place in Broadway and beyond. It has also proved to be enjoyable to a broader audience due to the fact that this production specifically opts to features genres highly relevant in popular culture, such as hip hop, jazz, and R&B, while featuring a very diverse cast for each showing. Its unique shwotunes and musical recording have become even more widespread due to its publication outside the musical itself on streaming platforms.

Hamiltons reach only continued to develop from here as Hamilton has gone on to run in various cities across the United States, and show in several locations across the globe including Canada, the equally-renowned West End in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Paris, the Philippines, and Abu Dhabi. Its global fame continues it also released a film version in 2020 that became available on Disney+.

Every city that Hamilton visits, though the actors and production crew may differ, it maintains diversity that features various racial and ethnic backgrounds for each cast member, one of the accolades that Hamilton is known for.
