Beauty And The Beast at Durham Performing Arts Center

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, started out on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to lie about this, it was forgotten because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been different attempts to put the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and an extensive tour of Australia, this revival is currently on a US tour. One of the shows just so happens to be in Durham, North Carolina on Wednesday 3rd September 2025.

In other versions of the play, the backgrounds and the tone of the costumes were both rather dark. This put a lot of weight on The Beast character. This current production is going in a completely different direction. The focus is more on Belle, as it should be. This time around, the audience is treated to thoughtfully crafted sets and bright costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the traditional soundtrack, you start to see why both the British and Australian crowds took a liking to this revival. Forgive the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the perfect contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that crowds were incredibly amazed by this point in the play. There's no reason why things will be different this Wednesday at Durham Performing Arts Center and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's entrance and musical number tend to be loved by fans. It's really Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role. At the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you stroll out of Durham Performing Arts Center.
