The musical is directed by Martin Charnin and is based on the book written by Thomas Meehan. The musical tells the story of Annie, an 11-year-old orphan who lives with several other girls in an orphanage. Miss Hannigan, a mean and bitter caretaker at the orphanage, often gives Annie a hard time and vents her frustration for being surrounded by little girls. Annie escapes the orphanage to find her parents but is unsuccessful in her attempt. One day, Annie becomes a prospect of being adopted by a wealthy businessman, who vowed to help Annie find her parents.

The musical, which opened on Broadway in 1977, won numerous awards. The show garnered seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. At the Drama Desk Awards, Annie received seven awards, including Outstanding Musical and Oustanding Music. The music of Annie, especially the song “Tomorrow,” has received worldwide-commercial success and was covered by several artists for films, advertisements, and other TV shows.
