Beauty And The Beast at Durham Performing Arts Center

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, debuted on Broadway back in 1994. There's no reason to try and hide this, it was forgotten by the success of the Lion King. Since that date, there have been various attempts to bring the story back into the premium theater scene. After an amazing run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this new version is going on a US tour. One of the shows is going to be in Durham, North Carolina on Saturday 13th September 2025.

In other iterations of the play, the design of the set and the tone of the costumes were both on the darker side. This put a lot of emphasis on The Beast character. This new version is taking a completely different approach. The focus is more on Belle, as it should be. This time around, the audience is greeted with beautifully crafted sets and colorful costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the jolly soundtrack, you start to see why both the British and Australian crowds took a liking to this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the bright entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village make, is the ideal counterpart to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that people were incredibly hooked by this point in the play. There's no reason why things will be different this evening at Durham Performing Arts Center and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical number tend to be fan favorites. It's really Belle who makes this story go though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role. At the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you walk out of Durham Performing Arts Center.

At these events, it's super important to have good seats. They are going to dictate the perspective that you have of what's going on, on stage. If you're a little bit off to the side, you could have a hard time seeing what's happening on the other end.
