Beauty And The Beast at Durham Performing Arts Center

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, started out on Broadway back in 1994. There's no reason to try and hide this, it was forgotten by the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been different attempts to put the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this new version is getting a US tour. One of the shows will luckily be in Durham, North Carolina on Friday 12th September 2025.

In previous iterations of the play, the backgrounds and the style of the costumes were both rather dark. This brought a lot of weight on The Beast character. This new version is going in a completely different direction. The focus is more on Belle, as it should've always been. This time around, the audience is treated to creatively crafted backgrounds and bright costumes that light up the stage. When you combine that with the traditional soundtrack, you start to see why both the British and Australian theater goers loved this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the grand entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the ideal counterpart to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that audiences were incredibly amazed by this point in the story. There's no reason why things will be different this evening at Durham Performing Arts Center and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical performance tend to be fan favorites. It's really Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've chosen a great actress for the role. At the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you waltz out of Durham Performing Arts Center.
